Corporate social responsibility is an important mindset that is firmly embedded throughout our company. Community engagement is well integrated into our daily business practices. In Canada, Holcim organizes more than 200 annual events that bring us closer to local communities. We design and manage our operations with neighbours and local communities in mind. In order to ensure our operations continue to meet or exceed their expectations and to address any concerns that arise, we have a formal complaints system in place at all locations. We maintain active dialogue with our neighbours and local stakeholders. We have a formal process for informing and interacting with local communities through community advisory panels, citizens’ committees or meetings with local ratepayers’ associations. Such meetings provide our management with an opportunity to listen and share information, and to seek input from residents. In addition to formal consultation, our plants and quarries are visited annually by thousands of school children and local residents for open houses, tree plantings and other educational activities. Aligning our community engagement with what we know best, Holcim provides in-kind contributions of technical expertise and construction materials as well as fundraising for a range of local and national organizations. Employees are encouraged to participate in volunteer activities. |
