Our objective is to lead our industry in sustainable development. We believe that excellence in this field opens doors to new markets, new opportunities and relationships, and provides a solid base for long-term profitability. Sustainability is embedded in our business strategies and day-to-day management. This commitment starts at our plants where, through investment and the efforts of passionate employees, we have continuously improved environmental performance in the areas of emissions, noise, fugitive dust and resource use. Our vision for sustainability extends through the construction value chain. We invest in developing sustainable building materials such as GranCem®, we lead the industry in our progressive approach to quarry rehabilitation, and we are implementing innovative new processes for reducing waste and water consumption by our ready mixed concrete trucks. We have made a major contribution to sustainability through the Holcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction, created to build awareness among building professionals and the public, and to foster a mindset where sustainability in the construction sector is approached as a technical, design and quality of life issue. At an international level, Holcim is recognized as the leader in our sector. We were instrumental in the creation and provide ongoing support for the World Business Council for Sustainable Development Cement Sustainability Initiative which is forging a path to the future for our industry. We are the sector leader on the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability Index; the FTSE4Good index; and the Ethibel Investement Register. |
